Your Drinks Matter More Than You Think
When your body is constantly dealing with blood sugar crashes, inflammation, and adrenal stress, your hormone production takes a hit. Your adrenals are already working overtime to manage daily stress, and when you add in drinks that spike your cortisol or crash your blood sugar, you're making it impossible for progesterone and other key hormones to do their job.
The truth is, most women don't realize their daily drinks are working against them. But once you make a few simple swaps, you'll notice a real difference in your energy, mood, and how you feel in your body.
3 Hormone Balance Drinks for Energy, Mood, & Metabolism
Coffee (Yes, You Can Still Have It)
Let's start with the big one. Coffee gets a bad rap, but the truth is, coffee isn't inherently bad for your hormones. It really comes down to the type of coffee you're drinking and what you're putting in it.
I love coffee. It's happiness in a cup for me. But if you're relying on coffee as your life source, we've got an adrenal issue on our hands, and coffee might be making the problem worse.
Here's how to optimize your coffee for hormone balance:
Choose quality beans. Look for mold-free, micro-toxin-free coffee beans. Mold growth in coffee actually comes from the processing, so companies that test their beans can prove they don't have mold. Seven Weeks is my personal favorite for taste. They don't have testing, but they're transparent about their processing, and I've never had an issue with their beans.
Other favorite coffee brands include:
Kion (discount code LEAH)
Paleovalley (discount code LEAH)
Watch the acid levels. All of the brands I just mentioned sit in the low-acid range, which is much easier on your body.
Skip the plastic. If you're getting coffee from your local coffee shop in a plastic cup with a plastic lid, you're drinking hot microplastics. Make your coffee at home when you can so you can choose quality beans and skip the plastic.
Drink your coffee after breakfast. This is the biggest thing you can do. As women with sensitive stress systems and blood sugar that's easily impacted, starting your day with coffee on an empty stomach is like shocking your adrenals awake. Move your coffee after breakfast, and I promise you'll notice a difference in your energy and blood sugar.
Add fat and protein. Don't drink sugar-laden coffee. If you want to sweeten it, fine, but add some fat and protein too. I add collagen (choose a brand low in heavy metals), and then a fat source like coconut oil, butter, whole milk, or heavy whipping cream. This keeps your blood sugar stable and gives you sustained energy.
Supercharge it with mushrooms. If you really want to take your coffee to the next level, add mushrooms. I'm not talking about mushroom coffee you buy at the store. Most of those don't have a high enough dose of mushrooms to be therapeutic. I like to add my own.
My go-to is the three mushroom blend from Eversio Wellness in the yellow jar (discount code LEAH). It has turkey tail, cordyceps, and lion's mane, which support your energy, immune system, ATP production (think of that as your body's battery), and focus.
If you're really sensitive to caffeine but love the taste of coffee, I suggest adding a bit of reishi. I'd grab a reishi capsule from Eversio Wellness or their four mushroom blend (which has reishi in it) and put a little in your coffee.

Water With Electrolytes
This is one of those hormone balance drinks that seems too simple to make a difference, but it really does.
First things first:
If you're not filtering your water, you are the filter.
Go to EWG and look up the contaminants in your water. Make sure your water filter actually filters out those specific contaminants.
Once you've got clean water, take it a step further and add electrolytes.
I know there are people out there saying women don't sweat out as many electrolytes as men, so we don't need them. But sodium, potassium, and magnesium (which are all in electrolytes) are batteries for your adrenals.
Remember how we just talked about supporting your adrenals with your coffee? Let's do the same thing with your water. You don't need electrolytes with a thousand milligrams of sodium unless you have really low sodium levels. But bringing in a quality electrolyte blend can make a huge difference in how you feel.
There are options with no sugar added that use monk fruit or stevia, depending on how you react to those. My go-to brands are Paleovalley and Just Ingredients (use code LEAH to save on either of those brands). If you want something with no stevia, no monk fruit, no flavoring, just straight electrolytes, try E-Lite from BodyBio.
Happy Hormone Hot Chocolate
This is my favorite. As we head into cooler months (and honestly, even in summer), I love having a warm mug of something that resembles cocoa. So I created a happy hormone hot chocolate that tastes amazing and actually supports your hormones.
This drink is built on raw cacao (high in magnesium), quality collagen for protein and hair health, and adaptogens like maca and medicinal mushrooms. I also add saffron, which has been shown to support mood and sleep.
This protein-packed hot chocolate nourishes your hormones, supports sleep and stress levels, and honestly, it's just fun to drink. Who wouldn't want a happy hormone hot chocolate that tastes exactly like hot chocolate?

You don’t need to start drinking all 3 of these at once and get rid of all your current favorite drinks. Just try one! I recommend starting with your coffee and/or electrolytes. Those two changes alone will make a noticeable difference in how you feel.
But if you want to go all in and create a happy hormone hot chocolate routine with me, I'm here for it!
